Monel 400 Bolts

Nickel and copper represent a large part of the alloy in Monel 400 Bolts. Although the Monel 400 Hex Bolts are useful, they cost 5 to 10 times as much as nickel or copper equivalents. Monel 400 bolts aren't utilized in most applications since they aren't cost-effective. Monel 400 is only used in processes or applications when no other metal or alloy can perform the same function. One of the rare alloys, for instance, that can maintain its high tensile strength even at sub-zero temperatures is Monel 400 hex bolts. Therefore, in situations like these, Monel 400 Bolts are utilized. A nickel-copper alloy called Monel 400 bolts, which has a Monel 400 chemical composition of more than 67 per cent Ni and 23 per cent Cu, is resistant to salt, acidic solutions, steam at high temperatures, and seawater. The only way to harden the alloy 400 bolt is through cold working because it is a solid solution alloy.


The thermal resistance and flexibility of Monel 400 are both excellent. Alloy 400 Fasteners are typically used in marine engineering, heat exchangers, valves, pumps, and hydrocarbon processing because Monel 400 Bolts and Nuts resist corrosion in chemical and oceanic conditions, where the fasteners come into contact with intense hydrofluoric acid. Monel 400 Fasteners are corrosion-resistant to various substances but are not resistant to nitrous acid, nitric oxide, Sulphur dioxide, or hypochlorite. Monel 400 should not be used to avoid exposure to certain chemicals. The additional problem is that Monel 400 has a propensity for galvanic corrosion, which means that iron, zinc, or aluminium fasteners used with Monel 400 can corrode instantly.

Monel 400 Density Bolts and Material Properties

One of the unique properties of the Monel 400 material is that it has a chemical composition that includes :

  • maximum carbon content of 0.3 percent,
  • copper content of 28 to 34 percent,
  • manganese content of 2 percent,
  • silicon content of 0.5 percent,
  • iron content of 2.5 percent,
  • Sulphur content of 0.024 percent, and
the nickel content of the remaining portion. Alloy 400 has a density of 0.318 lb/in3 (8.8 gm/cm3).
